Chemical Peel

What is a Chemical Peel?

A Chemical Peel is a treatment in which a Certified Professional applies a formulation incorporating acids such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids to exfoliate and remove damaged layers of the epidermis.

A few benefits of a chemical peel treatment include:
– Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
– Improves texture and scarring
– Reduces hyperpigmentation including sun damage, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
– Improves most grades of acne
– Strengthens the skin to keep it active and youthful

What should I do prior to a peel?

– Discontinue the use of active ingredients including Retin-A and Non-Prescription AHAs or Retinol for 5-7 days.
– No cosmetic injections within a minimum of 14-21 days prior to a chemical peel treatment.
– Avoid excess sun exposure to avoid a sunburn prior to the treatment

What to expect during the peel?

– Two cleanses of the skin will be performed and a masque may be incorporated into the treatment.
– A pre-treatment solution will be applied to the skin and may or may not tingle.
– The chemical peel solution will be applied to the skin. It will either be left on your skin for a period of time or will be applied in layers, depending on the type of chemical peel.
– While the chemical peel solution is on the skin, it is normal to experience itching, tingling, or warm sensations.
– Your Certified Professional will apply healing and calming products post-treatment to nourish the skin and promote healing.
– You will need to follow recommended healing instructions as outlined by your Certified Professional.

After any level of peel:

– Always wash hands before completing skin care routine.
– Keep skin well moisturized and diligently apply SPF.
– Do not pick, rub, or touch your face unnecessarily.
– Avoid all sun exposure or as minimal as possible.
– Avoid exercise for 24-72 hours.
– Avoid applying makeup for 24-72 hours.
– Avoid active ingredients (AHAs, BHAs, or Retinol for example) for 3-5 days post-treatment.

What to expect post AHA Chemical Peel?

– Possible redness, tightness, and/or dryness.
– Possible sensitivity.
